The DynaPro Health Disposable Face Mask is a 3 layer medical face mask design that uses non woven inner and outer layers. There is also a central melt blown fabric layer for optimal filtration performance.  These masks are also known as procedure or isolation masks. These Medical Face Masks consist of the tri laminate material mentioned above, a mask clip and earloops. The nose clip consists of iron wire with a low density polyurethane plastic coating. Finally, the mask earloops are made from elastic material woven from spandex and polyester.

Please note that this Disposable Face Mask is on the List of Medical Devices for Exceptional Importation and Sale. This is a list of medical devices compiled by Health Canada for use in fighting the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Disposable Face Mask – Tested Performance Levels

ASTM Level 2 Filtration Standard

These medical face masks provide a 98% Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) as well as Synthetic Blood splash resistance at a 120 mmHg pressure level. They are consistent with the ASTM Level 2 and EN14683, Type IIR filtration standards. The masks will protect individuals who are in the vicinity of the wearer from respiratory droplets he or she may emit while coughing, sneezing or even speaking.

Ventilation Flow Resistance

The DynaPro Face Mask has tested levels of ventilation flow resistance of just 36 Pa/cm2. This meets the ventilation resistance requirements of ASTM Levels 1,2 and 3 as well as those of EN14683, Type IIR. As a result, you will be able to breathe easily while you are wearing this mask.

Disposable Face Mask – Microbiological indicators

In addition to the above criteria, these Disposable Face Masks have undergone testing for microbial cleanliness. Testers used an extraction method to determine the total number of viable microorganisms on the mask. The masks display no detectable levels of various bacteria such as coliform counts, fungal counts, staphylococcus aureus and others. Overall bacterial count is 20 CFU/g relative to the maximum allowable level of 100 CFU/g. This is sufficient to meet the EN14683 standard, Types I, II and IIR. Each of these standards requires a total level of 30 CFU/g..

Use these procedure masks as an additional layer of protection together with facial protection from the DynaPro Face Shield.

Frequently Asked Questions

What specific levels of protection does the DynaPro Disposable Face Mask offer, and against what does it protect?

The DynaPro Disposable Face Mask is a medical-grade procedure mask designed to provide a high level of filtration and fluid resistance, consistent with its ASTM Level 2 rating. Its primary function is to protect individuals in the vicinity of the wearer from large respiratory droplets that the wearer may emit when coughing, sneezing, or speaking . This is a critical feature of source control in healthcare and public settings.

In terms of quantifiable performance, the mask boasts a Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) of 98% . This means it is highly effective at filtering bacteria of a specific size. Furthermore, the mask has been tested for fluid resistance and can withstand synthetic blood splashes at a pressure of 120 mmHg . This level of resistance makes it suitable for low-to-moderate fluid-risk procedures and environments, aligning with the ASTM Level 2 and EN14683, Type IIR standards . It is important to note that while the mask offers excellent filtration, its primary design is as a barrier against droplets, and it is often recommended for use in conjunction with a face shield for full protection of the eyes, nose, and mouth .

Will the disposable face mask be comfortable to wear for extended periods, and will it restrict my breathing?

Comfort and breathability are key considerations for any disposable mask, particularly for healthcare workers or individuals who must wear them for long shifts. The DynaPro mask is designed with these factors in mind. It features a three-layer laminate construction with non-woven inner and outer layers and a central melt-blown fabric layer for filtration . This design is intended to balance protection with wearability.

The mask’s breathability is objectively demonstrated by its tested ventilation flow resistance, which is just 36 Pa/cm² . This low resistance level meets the requirements of ASTM Levels 1, 2, and 3, as well as the EN14683, Type IIR standard . Consequently, wearers should be able to breathe easily while the mask is in use. Additionally, the mask is equipped with soft elastic earloops made from spandex and polyester, and an adjustable nose clip with a soft polyurethane coating, which contributes to a secure and comfortable fit without causing undue pressure on the face .

How can I be sure of the mask's cleanliness and safety regarding microbial contamination?

The microbial cleanliness of a medical device like a face mask is a critical safety indicator. The DynaPro Disposable Face Mask has undergone rigorous testing to ensure it meets stringent hygiene standards. Testers used an extraction method to determine the total number of viable microorganisms present on the mask . The results showed no detectable levels of common pathogens such as coliforms, fungi, or Staphylococcus aureus.

Quantitatively, the mask demonstrates an overall bacterial count of 20 CFU/g . This is well below the maximum allowable level of 100 CFU/g required to meet the EN14683 standard for Types I, II, and IIR masks . This low bioburden confirms that the mask is manufactured and packaged under conditions that ensure a high level of microbiological cleanliness, making it safe for use in medical procedures and by the general public. This commitment to safety is further underscored by its listing on Health Canada’s List of Medical Devices for Exceptional Importation and Sale, which was compiled for use during the COVID-19 pandemic .
