A rib fracture is a break or fracture of one of the bones making up the rib cage. These injuries are usually the result of direct blows or indirect crushing injuries and can potentially cause pulmonary contusions. They are also usually quite painful because of the need to continually move the ribcage as part of the act of breathing. A rib belt or other similar orthopedic brace can help to heal these injuries by restricting the movement of the fractured ribs. Please consult with your doctor to ensure that these products are suited to your particular injury type.
