There are several sports in which athletes can suffer a blow to the nose. This can be caused by another player’s elbow, a ball, puck or something else. When this happens and causes a nosebleed, the athlete will need to immediately suspend the bleeding and get back into the game. Nasal plugs will help accomplish this until the end of the game. At that time, the athlete can seek more long term treatment for the injury.
More than 9 out of 10 nosebleeds occur in the anterior portion of the nose and these plugs are designed to stop such bleeds.
Please note – some nosebleeds are caused by damage to the large blood vessels at the back of the nose. In some other cases, a nosebleed could be an indication of internal bleeding. These are more serious and you should not attempt to treat them using these plugs. If your nosebleed does not show signs of stopping after 30-60 minutes, you should consider seeking immediate medical attention.
Another potential cause of a nosebleed is a broken nose. Symptoms of a broken nose include bruising, swelling or a crooked appearance of the nose. They can also include a black eye and tenderness of the nose to the touch. If these symptoms appear with your nosebleed, particularly after a blow to the face, you should seek immediate medical help. Mueller Sports Medicine Cotton Nasal Plugs will not be sufficient to treat these injuries.
