The DynaPro Reusable Hot/Cold Pack is a versatile non-toxic compress that you can use for both hot and cold therapies and for treatment of both acute and chronic injuries.
The DynaPro Reusable Hot/Cold Pack is a compress that you can use for both hot and cold therapy treatments.
To use the compress for heat therapy, place it in a microwave over, or in boiling water.
To use it for cold therapy, place it in the freezer.
DynaPro Reusable Hot/Cold Pack – Acute Injuries
For acute injuries (caused by e.g. a direct blow, a fall or a sharp twisting movement resulting in a muscle or ligament tear), cold therapy is the initially recommended approach. It will cool the injured tissues and lower your metabolic rate and velocity of nerve conduction. It will also cause constriction of the blood vessels surrounding the injury and will therefore reduce bleeding.
For these injuries, apply a frozen DynaPro Reusable Cold & Hot Compress to the injury and maintain contact with the injured area for at least 20 minutes. Repeat every 2 to 3 hours for the next 48 hours.
Caution – please use a towel or other suitable sleeve to insulate the frozen compress from direct contact with your skin.
You can use the same compress over this period, as they are reusable.
Once bleeding has stopped and there are no signs of inflammation, you can use consecutive cold and hot treatments. Use cold and then hot for intervals of 10 minutes each. For this, you will need two different compresses.
The use of heat therapy will increase the flow of blood (and, with it, required nutrients) to the injured area as it reverses the blood vessel constriction that the cold treatment causes.
DynaPro Reusable Hot/Cold Pack – Chronic Injuries
Chronic injuries appear over time and are not the result of a sudden discrete event. They are typically overuse injuries or the result of an initially acute injury that has not received appropriate treatment.
For these injuries, you can use the DynaPro Reusable Cold & Hot Compress as a heat compress and apply it to the injury for periods of 15 to 20 minutes at a time.
Caution – as with the cold compress, you should use a towel or some other insulation between the compress and your bare skin in order to avoid burns.
On occasion, the compress can be used to provide cold therapy to chronic injuries. For example, you may use it to control swelling in the injured area after you have completed a strenuous period of exercise.
