Eco-Med EcoGel 200® Multi-Purpose Ultrasound Gel is a popular medium viscosity (80,000 – 100,000 cps) ultrasound gel manufactured by Eco-Med Pharmaceuticals Inc. It is suitable for therapeutic ultrasound procedures as well as other diagnostic imaging and similar procedures for which you need a viscous but user friendly conductive medium.
It is available in several packaging options that are designed to improve productivity and keep patient discomfort and product waste to a minimum.
Ultrasound gel is designed to active as a conductive medium between the transducers of the ultrasound or other imaging unit and the tissues of the body that are being imaged.
Medium or high viscosity gels like the Eco-Med EcoGel 200® Multi-Purpose Ultrasound Gel are preferred for most ultrasound imaging procedures. Generally, it is better to use a gel that stays in place during use, especially when imaging an angled part of the body. A “runny” gel will tend to move around on these body areas, resulting in a lower quality image if air bubbles result from that movement.
If the procedure for which the gel is to be used includes warming it before use, it may be less viscous after warming than if left at room temperature. In these situations, a higher viscosity gel may be preferable as it will be less viscous and offer the ideal resistance level after warming. The same is true of gel that will remain on the patient’s body for a prolonged period – it will become less viscous as it reacts to body temperature, and so it may be better to start with a gel with higher than normal viscosity at room temperature.
