Deltoid sprains are injuries involving overstretching, tears or possibly complete ruptures to the deltoid ligament at the medial side of the ankle. As with most ankle sprains, symptoms are inflammation, pain, swelling and difficulty placing weight on the injured ankle. This type of injury is usually caused by twisting, turning or rolling of the ankle, thus placing undue pressure on its ligaments as well as other structures. Sports such as squash, tennis or basketball, with explosive side to side movements, tend to involve this type of injury more frequently than others. The ankle braces below can be of assistance in reducing the pain of this injury and, by restricting movement of the ankle structures, they can also promote more rapid recovery.
