Donjoy first opened its doors in 1978 in a Carlsbad, California garage. The initial owners were a Philadelphia Eagles football player and his lawyer who named the company after their wives, Donna and Joy. The new company started by manufacturing neoprene support sleeves for customers to wear over elbows, ankles and knees. Donjoy has purchased several of its distributors in key locations including Canada, which ensures that it can offer customers quality customer service.
Donjoy has continued growing rapidly over the next 30 years. Key points in its history include:
its acquisition by Smith & Nephew in 1987; and
its own acquisition of ProCare (an orthopedic goods soft company) in 1995. The company also went public in 2001.
Other prominent brands and companies Donjoy has acquired over the years include Depuy soft goods, Encore orthopedic soft goods and Aircast bracing & support devices. The company also distributes a quality line of treatment tables and accessories as its Chattanooga line. Sales of Donjoy products in Canada have steadily increased in popularity over the years. This is in line with the general growth of the sports medicine market in Canada over the period.
Today, the company operates in Canada under the name DJO Global. It has been acquired by the Colfax corporation, a diversified technology company. Donjoy Canada is based in Mississauga, Ontario. However, it distributes its products to every part of Canada, including the major provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
Dunbar Medical is proud to offer the Donjoy range of products and to help the company maintain its reputation for quality customer service.
